Art Historian Dr. Lili Corbus to Present Lecture on Martha Strawn’s The Phenomenology of Water
Upstairs Artspace is pleased to welcome renowned art historian and photohistory scholar Dr. Lili Corbus for a special art lecture on Wednesday, January 6, 2027, from 2–3 PM, in conjunction with the exhibition The Phenomenology of Water: Works by Martha Strawn.
As the author of the exhibition’s catalog essay, Dr. Corbus will offer an in-depth look at Strawn’s photographs and their connections to the work of other artists working across a variety of mediums. Drawing upon her extensive knowledge of the history of photography, Corbus will discuss visual and conceptual similarities between Strawn’s exploration of water, nature, and consciousness and the work of artists who have addressed related ideas through photography, painting, and other artistic forms.
