About the event

Kristi Ryba's paintings in her show "Like an Epiphany" at Upstairs Artspace are comments on the current social and political culture. Led by Deborah Fitzgerald, PhD, we will examine how Aristotle's view of the purpose of art fits with Ryba's vision. We will also examine the philosophical debate as to whether art should ever be political, and look at Marx's claim that all art is political. In the course of our discussion, we will see how her work connects with that of other artists with similar visions.
